He organized people, carried wounded in his arms and led others up the stairs, giving them hope in the midst of hell.

He didn’t do it once. He went back in. Over and over again.

Ling Young, one of the survivors, later described him as her guardian angel. It's estimated that he managed to rescue more than a dozen people before being found among the rubble, alongside firefighters, climbing back up with rescue equipment.
